Wildcats Notch First Home and ASC Win

After winning their first set on their home floor just a few days ago the Louisiana College volleyball team took it two steps further on Wednesday night, taking their first home and conference win in program history over Belhaven University. The Wildcats dropped the first set 25-18 but rallied to win the next three in a row 25-20, 25-16, 25-21 to notch the first American Southwest Conference in school history.

The first set belonged to the Blazers but there were instances of LC excellence that would set the table for what would take place in the final three sets of the night. Seeing her first action in a Wildcat uniform this season Paola Salas Adorno showed her skill on the attack with four kills in the first set, a precursor to the nights showing.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second behind a pair of kills from Jaslyn Bright and a pair of Blazer errors. Although Belhaven would battle back, the four-point advantage was enough breathing room for LC to maintain their lead the rest of the set. Back-to-back kills from Bright and Niajia Huval ended the second in LC's favor 25-20 to even the match a one set each.

In the third the match was tightly contested until Adorno took to the service line and helped the Wildcats rattle off four straight points and six of the next seven total in the set. Bright added a pair of kills during the run to go along with two aces from Adorno. The Wildcats were the aggressor the rest of the night keeping the Blazers on their heels. LC pushed their advantage in the third to 22-14 thanks to more Belhaven miscues and kills from Adorno and A'Qia Chambers. Sadi Jones ended the third for the Cats 25-16 to push their match lead to 2-1 heading to the fourth.

The Wildcats were put to the test right away in the fourth with Belhaven taking the first three points and eventually going ahead 4-1. Down 12-8 later in the set it was once again the service of Adorno that turned the table in the Wildcats favor. Seven straight points that included a pari of aces, and kills from Chambers, Bright, and Jones put LC up 15-12 at the midway point of the set. The Blazers rallied to tie the game and even went ahead 20-17 late in the frame, but the Wildcats would not be denied on this night. The magic of H.O. West Fieldhouse came alive as this time I'Nyah Katley stepped to the service line and produced two aces and after some exceptional defense the LC offense and Adorno, who had four kills in the final seven points game the Wildcats match point at 24-20. Jaslyn Bright provided the final blow off a set from Chambers and the Wildcats secured their first home and conference win in program history.

Adorno became the first Wildcat with 20 kills in a single match to set a new program mark in the category while also setting the mark for aces in a match with five. Jaslyn Bright added 14 kills in the match with 11 digs defensively and A'Qia Chambers set a new personal high with 36 assists for the freshman.

The Wildcats will look to carry their momentum into the weekend as they travel to Belton, Texas for the first ASC Crossover event of the year. LC will take on Howard Payne and Concordia on Friday before finishing the weekend against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday.
