Wildcats Open ASC Play vs #8 Cowboys

After a difficult night in their season opening loss to Division I Alcorn State, the Louisiana College football team will begin play in the American Southwest Conference against the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium with gates opening at 5 p.m.

The Wildcats were overmatched in their season opener last week in Mississippi and total execution on the part of Alcorn made the game a rout quite quickly. The Wildcats were held to just 36 yards of total offense and didn't pick up a first down until the third quarter of the game. Despite the long night on the field, Head Coach Justin Charles was pleased with the fight and mental toughness the team showed throughout the evening.

"Mentally they kept on going, physically they kept on going and just had a big time fight within them the whole night," Charles said. "I was proud of them from that aspect and the side of us executing in certain situations, missing some big plays here or there, but they did a lot of different things and sometimes you just get out manned."

Hardin-Simmons opened the season last week with a 42-33 win at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. They racked up 560 yards of total offense on the night with the vast majority, 453, coming via the ground. ASC offensive preseason player of the year Jaquan Hemphill totaled 258 yards on 27 carries with a pair of touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Marc Reed added another 124 yards and a score on the ground and 107 yards and two touchdowns through the air.

Last year in Abilene the Wildcats started strong against the Cowboys, trailing just 7-0 after the first quarter, but three turnovers and an 8-for-24 performance on third down the rest of the way led to a four score second and 55-10 loss on the road.

Saturday's game will kick off at 6 p.m. from Wildcat Stadium as the team will honor long time and legendary coach Vance Morris at halftime with multiple  former players and coaches in attendance for the celebration.

The parking lot between the stadium and Cottingham Hall is reserved for season ticket holders, LC Board of Visitor members, and LC trustees. General parking is available throughout campus on a first come, first serve basis. Gates open one hour before kickoff and general admission tickets are available for $10 or $8 for non-LC students, children 12 and under get in for free. Reserved chair back seats are also available for purchase at the gate for $25.

Saturday's game will be live streamed under the supervision of Mr. Jeff Young by students in the Louisiana College Convergence Media Department. The game can also be heard live on 104.3 FM "The Bridge" with the voice of LC football Rich Dupree, along with Doug Gann and Al Quartemont. Pregame coverage begins at 5:30 p.m.
