The Louisiana College Lady Wildcats softball team will make its 15th American Southwest Conference tournament appearance on Thursday as the No. 6 seed in this year's tournament, and take on No. 7 Sul Ross State University in the tournament's opening game. LC is making its seventh appearance in a row and has an overall record of 36-22 in ASC postseason play, is a four-time runner-up, and a three-time champion, most recently in 2010.

The Wildcats will take on the Lobos in the first game of the opening day, starting at 10 a.m. Thursday morning. LC finished the regular season at 21-17 overall and 19-11 in ASC play to claim the No. 6 seed. The Wildcats finished the season with a three game sweep of Belhaven University and are winners of five of their last six games. Their 19-11 conference record was equal to that of UT Dallas and Concordia TX but both the Comets and Tornado held tiebreakers over LC, giving them the sixth seed in the tournament.

The Lobos are 18-20 overall and 15-15 in conference play this year, taking two out of three on the road from Howard Payne to finish the season. This is just the second time in program history that Sul Ross has earned a spot in the postseason tournament. The other occasion coming following the 1999 season, the first year of the ASC tournament, where they lost to Schreiner and Mississippi College to be eliminated.

During the regular season series, the Wildcats won two of three games over the Lobos, on the road in Alpine, Texas. Savannah Settle threw a 8.0 inning, 1-0 shutout in game one, which was won on an eighth inning solo home run from Kaitlyn Moore, the first of her career. After stumbling in the second game, allowing eight unanswered runs to lose game two 8-3, the Wildcats turned the tables with some late offense to take the finale 3-2. Lucy Lewis threw a complete game gem in the win, and a clutch 2-run double from Mattie Stine in the sixth inning tied the game, who then scored the winning run on an RBI groundout to short.

The ASC Tournament expanded to an eight team format this season featuring four single-elimination games on Thursday. The two teams that advance from Thursday's action enter the double-elimination part of the tournament on Friday and Saturday. The winner of the LC/SRSU game Thursday morning will advance to play Concordia TX later that afternoon at 4 p.m. The championship game will be played Saturday at 2 p.m. with an if needed game scheduled for that evening at 7 p.m.
