Wildcats Stumble in Series Finale

Despite taking an early lead in the series finale the Louisiana College softball team could not hold off Concordia on Saturday afternoon in Austin, Texas. The Tornado scored five unanswered runs to win the American Southwest Conference series with a score of 5-1 in the finale. The Wildcats return to play next week as they host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in another three game ASC series.

The Wildcats got on the board early after the first two batters of the game reaching on an error and a bunt single. After an error moved the runners to second and third, Mattie Stine's RBI groundout put LC on top as Sami Walters came in to score. That would be the end of the early rally and unfortunately for the Wildcats the next two batter were retired in order.

Concordia answered the opening run with a pair in the bottom of the first on a squeeze bunt and an RBI double two batters later. The Wildcat would have a couple of more key chances to score in the game, getting a runner to second or third with one out, but each time were unable to get the clutch hits that would bring them around to score.

The Tornado extended their 2-1 lead after the first inning in the fifth on a pair of RBI singles, then added one more in the sixth on a solo home run to left. The Wildcats finals scoring chance came in the top of the seventh when they got runners to second and third with 2-out, but they were left there as the final out was made at first base.

Sami Walters and Mattie Stine each provided two hits for the Wildcats on the day, with Stine getting the only RBI of the game for LC, bringing in Walters in the first. Savannah Settle (10-6) threw her second complete game of the weekend in the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.
