ETBU Pulls Away Late in Win

2/10/2018 9:30:00 PM

Box Score

A well-played second half was not enough for the Louisiana College men's basketball team to overcome their American Southwest Conference rival East Texas Baptist University on Saturday night. ETBU pulled away late for the 97-83 win at H.O. West Fieldhouse, sweeping the season series over the Wildcats. LC finishes their season with two games next week at Rapides Coliseum on Thursday and Saturday nights.

ETBU came out strong in the early goings, jumping out to a 16-2 lead through the first five minutes of play. The Wildcats came storming back with 10 quick points in less than two minutes of game time to make it an 18-14 game by the under-12 media timeout. ETBU was able to maintain their lead the rest of the half by trading points with the Wildcats for the final 10 minutes of the first.

A layup by the Tigers early in the second half put them back up by double figures at 60-49, but LC once again put together a quick run that made the game close. The Wildcats 10-2 run made it a one possession game when Jaquez Coleman knocked down a 3-pointer to make the score 62-59. The Wildcats remained down by three for the next several minutes as they could never find the shot that would get them closer, only answering points by the Tigers during that time.

An 8-0 run by ETBU put them ahead by double-digits with 7:02 left and that was the final push they needed to come away with the road victory, as the Wildcats could not find a run of their own this time. LC shot even with ETBU in the second half, and even out rebounded the Tigers, but a minus-4 turnover difference and six less total possession limited the Wildcats chances to come back.

Devon Washington had another monster game, ending with his second straight double-double with 30 points and 17 rebounds. Lashard Powell also had a big night scoring with 21 points. Timothy Stokes finished with six points and six assists, while Nick Burks was the only other Wildcat in double figures with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting.

The LC men close their season with a pair of ASC games on Thursday and Saturday at Rapides Coliseum. The Wildcats take on the Universtiy of the Ozarks on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. and end the season eith the University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday afternoon.
