Big Second Half Lifts Lady Wildcats over Centenary

In their first official regular season game of the year the Louisiana College women's basketball team picked up their first win 79-68 behind a stellar second half performance. The Wildcats shot 60 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes to outscore Centenary 44-30. LC will travel to Salem, Va. for two games in the Roanoke College Tournament. The win was the first for Head Coach Matt LeBato in his career.

The Wildcats struggled to find their shot in the first half, only converting on 36 percent of their attempts while Centenary found half of their shots falling over that same time. LC held the lead through the entire run of the first quarter. RyDeja McQuarn's jumper in the paint with two seconds left in the opening quarter put the Wildcats up 16-12.

The Wildcats, despite the low shooting numbers in the first half, maintained their lead through the first five minutes of the second quarter as Centenary eventually chipped away and took their first lead with 4:27 left in the half. A trio of 3-point shots over the final four minutes gave the Ladies the 38-35 advantage at the half.

The game turned midway through the third when the Wildcats went on an 11-2 run to erase a five-point deficit and take a 54-50 lead with 3:30 left in the quarter. The Ladies tied the game at 58 late in the quarter but LC would end with the lead as Kourtney McGhee knifed her way through the lane to score with two second left to put the Cats back up headed to the fourth.

The run continued into the fourth as the Cats went on a 15-1 run through the first six minutes to give themselves a double-digit advantage that the Ladies would not be able to erase. Five Wildcats scored in double figures in the game lead by McQuarn's 17-point effort, making 6-of-10 from the field.

The Wildcats head to Virginia for games against Piedmont College on Saturday and Wesleyan College on Sunday. Stay connected to Louisiana College women's basketball by following @LC_WBB on Twitter.
