Wildcats Fall in Straight Sets to Centenary



The Louisiana College volleyball team traveled to Shreveport on Monday afternoon for another match up with Centenary College Ladies. It turned into a tough night for the Wildcats as Centenary came out strong and didn't look back, taking the match in straight sets, avenging their loss to the Wildcats earlier this year. LC will play their final two matches of the season this weekend in Conway, Ark.
 
Early in the first set things appeared to be headed for another thriller between the two teams. LC got a pair of kills from Paola Salas Adorno and a Centenary error put the Wildcats up 8-5. The lead would evaporate over the next few points but the teams were still very evenly matched and found themselves tied at 16 after an ace from Sadi Jones and another kill from Adorno. That was when Centenary began to pull away and pick up the momentum that would carry them through the rest of the match. A 9-1 run ended the first that included three LC errors and four kills from Centenary giving them the 25-17 set win.
 
The Wildcats came out well in the second, taking a 6-2 lead behind some Centenary miscues. The match would turn against the Wildcats when Centenary went on a 17-0 run that also included six Wildcat errors. The Wildcats lost the second set 25-9 and although the third was much more reminiscent of typical LC volleyball the momentum was squarely in Centenary's corner.
 
As they did in the first two sets the Wildcats had an early lead, this time of 7-5 on kills from Jones and Adorno. The even pushed it to a 12-8 advantage on three consecutive aces from Jones and a kill from Mary Nichols, but that was when Centenary would begin their comeback. A 9-2 run gave them the lead and the Wildcats would trade points the rest of the way, not able to put a string together of their own.
 
The Wildcats travel to Hendrix College this weekend for a pair of matches against the University of Texas at Tyler and Rhodes College on Saturday afternoon.
