Lady Wildcats Close the 2018 Season

The 2018 season ended on Saturday afternoon for Louisiana College volleyball as they would not repeat the final results from their inaugural season with two wins to end the year. The Wildcats fell in straight sets to the University of Texas at Tyler before losing 3-1 to Rhodes College to end their campaign. The Wildcats finish the year at 5-22 overall and 3-13 in American Southwest Conference play.

UT Tyler

The Wildcats faced off with the talented Patriots for the second time in seven days with a better performance this go around but still not enough to knock of the #16 ranked Tyler. The teams traded points early but the Patriots began to pull away with a 14-3 stretch in the first that put them up by 10 before an LC timeout. The Wildcats picked up kill from Paola Salas Adorno and Mary Nichols before the set ended but UTT went on to take the first 25-14.

The second remained close through the first half of play with the Wildcats making a 6-1 run with a pair of kills from Adorno and on each from Jaslyn Bright and Sadi Jones to make it a 12-11 game. The tide quickly turned though as Tyler went on an 11-1 run that all but sealed the second set for them ending things on a block assist of an Adorno attack. The Wildcats hung around in the third through the beginning run of play but the Patriot depth was too much as they took the final 25-17 and pick up their third win over the Wildcats on the season.

Rhodes

The Wildcats played their best set of the day in the opening frame against Rhodes College. LC made only four errors in the set and picked up 12 kills in the process with Adorno and Jones combining for seven of the 12 in the set. They were also helped by eight Rhodes errors to go along with the .211 hitting percentage to take the first set 25-23.

While the errors only slightly increased in the second and fourth sets for the Wildcats, the attack and defense took a hit with just 18 kills the rest of the match for LC and more than 35 for Rhodes. The Lynx had 15 kills in both the second and fourth sets and hit .419 in the final frame of the day.

After dropping the second set 25-20, the Wildcats came out strong in the third taking an 8-1 lead. They held the lead until a 14-2 run by Rhodes put them on top 21-13. They would go on to complete the set win 25-16 behind three LC errors in the final four points.

The Wildcats increased their win total by three in just their second season and won three conference matches including their first home victory and season sweep of an ASC opponent. The Wildcats await the announcement of the ASC All-Conference awards in the coming weeks. Stay connected to Louisiana College volleyball by following @LC_wvollyball on Twitter.
