Wildcats Complete Season Sweep of Belhaven

The Louisiana College volleyball team added another milestone to their resume on Tuesday night as they completed a season sweep of Belhaven University 25-14, 25-23, 13-25, 25-23. The win is the fifth of the season for the Wildcats and their third in American Southwest Conference play. The Wildcats return to H.O. West Fieldhouse for their final two home matches of the season this Friday and Saturday.

From the outset of Tuesday's match, the Wildcats were there to play as they came out with a dominating performance in the first set. A 4-0 run out of the gate set the tone early for the Wildcat victory. After going ahead 8-1 on kills from Paola Salas Adorno and Jaslyn Bright, LC didn't look back, pushing their advantage even further as the set progressed. Thanks to six Belhaven errors near the end of the first, the Wildcats took a convincing 25-14 first set win.

The second was much more closely contested but it was still LC that was the aggressor in play. The Wildcats fell behind early but worked their way back to even things at 10. A 9-2 run put things in the hands of the Wildcats thanks to s couple Belhaven errors and kills from Adorno, Bright, and Paris Babino as well as an ace from Sadi Jones. The Blazers made things interesting late in the second tying the match at 23 but back-to-back kills from Bright and Jones gave the second set to the Wildcats.

The third went in the opposite direction for LC however as error after error benefited the home team. A total of 10 errors in the set made it an easy win for the Blazers at 25-13, preventing the first ever ASC match sweep for the Wildcats. When it seemed as if Belhaven would carry that momentum to a fourth set win things turned late in the final set in a quick manner.

Down 20-14 in the fourth set, the Wildcats began their most dramatic comeback of the season. Four Blazer errors and kills from Babino and Mary Nichols helped push the Wildcats ahead 21-20. Two more Blazer errors gave the Wildcats 23 and back-to-back kills from Adorno ended the match for LC with a 25-23 set and a 3-1 match final.

The Wildcats will return to action on Friday evening at 6 p.m. as they take on the University of Texas at Dallas. They finish their home schedule on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against UT Tyler.
