The Louisiana College Volleyball team continued play in the second day of the American Southwest Conference cross-over in Richardson, Texas against Hardin-Simmons University and McMurry University. The Wildcats fought hard but fell short in both matches finishing 3-1 against HSU and 3-0 against McM. LC travels to Jackson, Mississippi to face Belhaven University on Tuesday then play their final two home matches against the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Texas at Tyler on Friday and Saturday.
LC vs HSU
The Wildcats started strong with a 4-0 lead in the first set. LC extended their lead by seven at 15-8 with two blocks by
Sadi Jones and
I'Nyah Kately. HSU leveled the score at 15, with two LC attacking errors. Both sides fought neck and neck until the 20th point when HSU broke away and took the set 25-23 on an LC attack error.
The Wildcats quickly shook the lose off and got back to work staying on top of HSU with big blocks and kills by
Jaslyn Bright and Jones leading 19-17. HSU rallied taking the score to 24-23, the winner must win by two, but two attack errors by HSU set LC up to end the game with a service ace by Kately. LC took the set 26-24, tying the match at 1-1.
HSU started the third set 6-1, before a service ace by Cabree Boug and then a block by
Niajia Huval and Jones brought the Cats within two at 6-4. LC came within six at 15-9 before HSU went on an 8-0 run. Two kills by Jones could not mount an LC comeback, HSU took the third set 25-12. The Cats took the first point of the Fourth set with Jones and Bright both combining for a block. Fighting for an extra set, LC maintained a point or two within HSU, but a 3-0 run two points before 25 proved to be the difference. LC could not recover and lost the fourth set 25-22 and the match 3-1.
LC vs McM
In the first set of the second game of the day, the Cats would stay close to the War Hawks before a 5-0 run at 12-4. Huval broke the run with a kill followed by a block by Jones. LC kills and defense could not stop McM, firing on all cylinders and taking the first set 25-14. In the second set, the Cats refused to quit, matching kill for kill. Two consecutive service aces by McM gave them enough to start pulling away, but McM service errors also kept LC in the match at 14-7. A kill by Huval and Bright saw the Cat down by two until McM went on a 4-0 run expanding the gap 20-14. Three LC attack errors cost the Cats late in the set, McM held on and took the set 25-17.
Two kills by Jones and two attacking errors by Mcm gave LC an early 5-1 lead in the third set. The War Hawks fought back with three LC serves errors coming within one at 6-5. Exchanging 3 and 4-0 runs, both sides stayed close to each other until McM broke away by four points at 23-19. The Cats rallied within two points but could not stop McM's final kill to fall 25-22, and 3-0 in the match.
