Box Score

Although the Louisiana College men's basketball team held Concordia University below their season average in scoring, it was not enough as the Tornado came away with the 87-74 victory on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Wildcats to 2-9 overall on the season and remain winless in American Southwest Conference play at 0-5. The Wildcats travel to the University of Texas at Tyler for their next matchup next Thursday evening.

The game began evenly matched between the two teams with neither the Wildcats or the Tornado having more than a four-point lead at any point through the first 10 minutes of play. A 19-7 run by Concordia after the half way point of the first half put the game in the hands of the home team with a 33-25 lead with just under six minutes remaining in the first half. The Wildcats made a late push with an 8-3 run in the final minutes of the half to pull back within five but a three-pointer at the buzzer by Concordia made it a 45-37 game at the half.

The Wildcats carried their momentum from the end of the first half into the second and began with a 7-2 start that get them back within a single possession on a Travis Schultz three-ball. Just when the Cats thought they were back in the game, Concordia put together another long point stretch to regain control of the game. A 12-0 run by CTX put the Tornado ahead by double figures once again at 59-44 with 15:14 left in the game. From there the Tornado maintained their double digit advantage through the rest of the game, shooting 44 percent from the field in the second half.

Devon Washington had another big game with his second double-double of the week scoring 21 points and pulling in 11 rebounds in the game. Three other Wildcats finished with double figure points in the game including Lashard Powell (13), Taylan Grogan (11), and Timothy Stokes (10).

The Wildcats take on UT Tyler next Thursday before heading to the University of the Ozarks on Saturday in another pair of ASC road contests. LC returns home the following week, January 18 against East Texas Baptist at H.O. West Fieldhouse. Stay connected to Louisiana College men's basketball all season by following @LC_MBSK on Twitter.
