Wildcats Fall to Comets

1/27/2018 9:08:00 PM

Box Score

The Louisiana College men's basketball team could not make it two wins in a row on Saturday afternoon as they were taken down by the University of Texas at Dallas by the score 82-63. While both teams shot nearly the same percentage from the floor, 45 percent, it was UTD that held the advantage in rebounds and turnovers in the game, leading to the big win. The Wildcats begin a six-game, season ending home stand on Thursday night at Rapides Coliseum with a rematch against UT Dallas.

The Wildcats picked up an early, slim lead, on back-to-back fast break layups by Jaquez Coleman 4-3, following two LC steals. After a basket on the other end by the Comets, Travis Schultz put the Cats back on top with a layup but UTD would take the lead away for the final time 30 seconds later on a layup. LC got to within one on two separate occasions following the under 16 media timeout, but a 5-0 stretch by the Comets gave them six-point lead with 12:18 left in the first half.

Another 7-0 run by the Comets later in the half stretched the lead to double-digits at 31-19 and they would continue to hold the big lead the rest of the way. The Wildcats went just 1-for-9 from behind the arc in the first half and 1-for-8 in the second half, preventing them from getting points in bunches. The difference in shooting from beyond the arc as well as minus-6 turnover margin, and a difference of nine rebounds in UTD's favor spelled defeat for LC.

The trio of Devon Washington, Lashard Powell, and Taylan Grogan were once again the main offensive options for the Wildcats in the game with each going for double figures on the night. Washington scored 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field while Powell finished with 15 and Grogan with 13 in the game.

The Wildcats take on UTD again on Thursday night at the Rapides Coliseum in Alexandria with a 7:30 p.m. scheduled tip-off. LC will play their final six games of the regular season at home, with two games scheduled for H.O. West Fieldhouse on February 8 and 10.
