Wildcats Take on Belhaven

After yet another tough road loss on Saturday afternoon to LeTourneau, the Louisiana College men's basketball team will need to shift into game mode quickly with a Monday evening matchup against Belhaven University coming. The Wildcats embark on their final two road games of the season, finishing what turned out to be an eight game conference road trip since the calender turned to 2018. LC takes on UT Dallas on Saturday in Richardson to close out the road schedule.

The Blazers come into Monday's game on a three game losing streak and losers of nine of their last 10 games on the year. Both the Blazers and Wildcats have played the same conference opponents thus far this season with almost the same results in each contest. Both teams have beaten Ozarks on the road but the difference coming with Belhaven's victory over Hardin-Simmons on the conference opening weekend. Sophomore guard Isiah Brown leads the Blazers with a 12.9 point per game average on a team averaging 84.9 points per game this year. Offensively Belhaven has the sixth highest scoring unit in the conference but they have allowed the most points of any team this year, surrendering almost 100.0 points per game to their opponents. Seven times this year an opponent has reached the century mark against the Blazers, including the last three games in a row and five of the last six. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Rugg Arena in Jackson, Miss.

For the third week in a row the Wildcats suffered at least one loss in which they felt they let the game slip through their hands. Holding the potent LeTourneau offense to 13 less than their season average only to fall by one point at the end. The Wildcats still sit in the top three in the conference in scoring defense, holding opponents to 79.5 per game. The other two teams with a defensive effort below 80.0 per game are UT Dallas and West leading Sul Ross State. Devon Washington continues to show why he is one of the best big men in the conference with 15.8 points per game and 8.9 rebounds per game, second in the conference. Freshman Lashard Powell has also continued to impress this season, with another 20 point outing last week, he is scoring 13.6 points per game for LC.

The Wildcats take on Belhaven Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in Jackson, Miss. then will wrap up their 2017-18 road schedule Saturday afternoon against UT Dallas. LC will end the year with six straight home contests starting on February 1 against UT Dallas at the Rapides Coliseum.
