Women Fall to Dallas 3-0

9/4/2017 6:35:00 PM

Box Score

There was no school Monday due to Labor Day but instead of a three-day weekend, the Lady Wildcats took to the pitch for a non-conference match versus the University of Dallas Crusaders. The cloudless Labor Day sky would take its toll on the Wildcats as the score line was 3-0 in the Crusaders favor at the end of 90 minutes. In the early stages of the game both sides where evenly matched, each attack well defended, and chances taken leading into what would seem to become a closely contested game.

The back line of the Lady Wildcats repelled any attack the Crusaders threw at them, stopping penetrating passes and long balls over the top. Adding to the dominant defense freshman goalkeeper Lexi Tate stopped three balls keeping the scoreline close. In the 20th minute, confusion on the left side of LC's defense, with claims of offsides and an LC free kick, turned into a goal for Dallas. A Dallas player was in an offside position but with an unlucky bounce off a LC player's leg Dallas forward Aileen Machado was able to get past the last defender and place her shot across Tate to give the Crusaders the lead.

Restarting play after the goal the Lady Wildcats did not seem the same, sloppy passing and lack of movement gave continued life for the Crusaders. Minutes later a right to left long ball over the top allowed Dallas winger Kate Vidimos to put a shot on frame, Tate made the initial save but her clearance was not far enough as Vidimos followed up her shot past Tate's out-stretched hands.

Even though the score was against the Wildcats that did not stop them from mounting a comeback. The mid-field of the cats were able to string passes together and work the ball down the field into the Crusader defense. The placement of the balls was good but the pace behind them was too strong for the fellow Lady Cats as many balls stretched the Crusader back line but in the end would become Dallas throw ins or goal kicks.  Senior Wildcat Jamie Trahan connected with a mid-field pass and blasted her shot towards goal but a well timed jump by Dallas keeper Olivia Severson saved the shot and prevented an LC counter.

The start to the second half was one to forget for the Cats as after five minutes passed the Crusaders were able to score a third goal. Claiming a second goal of the day, Machado struck upper 90 after turning past an LC defender in the fifth minute. From there the game would slow down as both sides pushed down to one end of the field pass around and then counter just to be denied. LC coach Sam Etherington brought in fresh legs but the changes were to late as the Crusaders were dug in and where ready to prevent any chance presented. The Lady Wildcats made a late push sending many shirts forward but the end result was sealed earlier in the half finishing the game with a 3-0 scoreline.

The Crusaders had 19 shots to LC's  four, Tate finished with six saves while Severson had two saves. The Wildcats have a little time to reflect and prepare for their next opponent in the Pilots of LSU - Shreveport. The game will be at  Pilot Field in Shreveport with the kick-off set for 3:00 p.m. this Saturday.  Stay connected to Louisiana College women's soccer by following @LC_WSOC on Twitter and liking them on Facebook.
