Three Goal Deficit Too Much to Overcome as LCU’s Season Ends

Wildcats Concede Three Times in First Half in RRAC Tournament First Round Defeat

TEXARKANA, Texas – The sixth-seeded Louisiana Christian University women's soccer team could not overcome a three-goal first-half deficit to the third-seeded Texas A&M Texarkana Eagles in a 3-1 women's soccer loss (15-2-1) Saturday at Judy Kelley Morgan Field, bringing the Wildcats' 2026 campaign to an end.

Louisiana Christian faced an early deficit after conceding in the fifth minute of the contest. Izzy Childs recorded the Wildcats' first shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the attempt was saved. Two more goals in the 33rd and 37th minutes extended the deficit before halftime. Starting goalkeeper Sara Mendivelso finished the half with two saves, including a stop just before the halftime whistle blew.

Marta Papandrea took over in goal at halftime and stopped all 10 shots on target she faced during a scoreless 45-minute appearance. With Texarkana generating 17 second-half shots, Papandrea's work prevented the deficit from growing while LCU pursued a response. Her 10th save came in the 86th minute.

The Wildcats began creating more chances shortly after the restart, with Emerith Hernandez putting a shot on target in the 48th minute. Katalina Medina struck the post in the 61st minute before scoring in the 70th minute to cut the margin to 3-1. Isabella Urbaneto followed with another shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but that attempt was saved.

Medina led LCU with four shots. Urbaneto and Childs each contributed three attempts, including two on target, while Hernandez put her lone attempt on goal. The Wildcats finished with 15 shots and six on target, and their goalkeepers combined for 12 saves.

The Wildcats end the 2026 campaign with a 7-8-1 record.
