Women Draw with LSU-S

Box Score

Saturday would be a stepping stone for the Louisiana College Women's soccer team as they traveled to Shreveport to face the Lady pilots of LSU-Shreveport. Both teams would be tested to the limits as the game would go into double overtime with a zero to zero scoreline. The Lady Wildcats looked and proved they were the more fit team on the pitch as they continued to create chances way past the end of regulation. The Wildcats only fielded 15 players due to injury and yet were able to withstand the brutal endurance of 110 minutes.

The first 45 minutes the game were even, both sides maintained possession and worked the ball around but failed to create anything threatening. The Lady Wildcats started most of their attack out of the back pinging passes forward but could not crack the Pilot defense. LC returned the favor by stepping their defense up as well only allowing shots from distance which never threatened Wildcat keeper Lexi Tate.

After the restart of play the Pilots would be the aggressor pushing numbers forward, within the first five minutes LSUS had two shots and two corners. The Wildcats did not flinch as Tate would stop Elizabeth Cobar's shot and watch as Natalie Bianco's attempt went wide. The front three of the Wildcats went into overdrive as their speed would cause issues for the Pilot defense. Sophomore Ashlynn Folse, and freshman Taylor Aubert pushed the backline and intricate passing from the mid-field allowed space for Folse and Aubert to shoot. Their efforts were not always dangerous as most of their shots where off frame.

The Pilots were not dormant the entire second half, in the 76th and 77th minute they were the dangerous side. Passing the Wildcats into shooting distance, the Pilots' Kati-Jayde Cunningham, made herself available and took two dangerous shots but were kept out by Tate, getting her hands on both to keep the score at zero.

Folse had the best chance to break the deadlock and leave with a victory. In the 87th minute, sprinting down the left side of LSUS, Folse pushed the ball out in front of her, passing Pilot defenders and striking it aiming for the side netting. Pilot keeper Karolyn Hasler's hand ended the Wildcat attack and the regular 90 minutes scoreless.

If at the end of 90 minutes the score is tied there is an option to continue with two ten minute overtime periods which both LC and LSUS agreed on and so the game moved on. The first overtime period was slow, only three attacks were mounted by the two sides, the Wildcats had the better opportunity behind senior Jamie Trahan's two shots. The shots were wide but it gave life to the Wildcats as they continued to show fight.

After a quick water break the second and final overtime period began. On first stent of possession the Pilots moved down the field into the LC defense and Cunningham teed the ball onto her right foot and blasted it wide continuing the woes for the Pilots. Sophomore McKenna Raines would have the only Wildcat effort in the final period when she was granted just enough space to fire one at goal, Hasler would prove to be in position as she redirected the ball away defusing the LC attack and start the Pilot counter. Picking up the loose ball, the Pilots quickly flipped the field and had their own attempt at victory. The ball fell to Cunningham and this time her shot was dangerous forcing Tate to get big and protect her goal and the Wildcat draw.

The Wildcats earn their first positive result of the season and hope to continue it when the Majors of Milsaps head into town Wednesday night.
