SHREVEPORT, La. – The Louisiana Christian University women's soccer team didn't blink in the face of an early deficit, instead scoring four unanswered goals in a 4-1 win over the Centenary Ladies Saturday afternoon at Atkins Field.
Louisiana Christian (2-1-1) fell behind early as Centenary (0-2) scored in the fourth minute to take a 1-0 lead.
It didn't take long for the Wildcats to answer as
Katalina Medina took in a pass from
Isabella Urbaneto and beat the Centenary goalkeeper to get the score back level at 1-1 in the ninth minute.
Just five minutes later, LCU went up to stay as Childs scored her first goal of the day, taking in a pass from Medina and beating the goalkeeper to make it 2-1 Wildcats.
Eight minutes after that, Childs got on her brace as she took in another pass from Medina and beat the keeper once again for a 3-1 LCU lead after just 22 minutes of play.
The only goal of the second half came in the 65
th minute as
Rose Blampain sent in a pass which
Giselle Laing got on the end of for the match's final goal.
Laing took six shots in the match, four she put on target and scored her fifth goal of the season.
Urbaneto took five shots on the day, put two on frame, and was credited with her second assist of the year.
Childs took four total shots in the match with both shots she put on frame finding the back of the net for her first two goals of the season.
Medina took three shots with one on target which went in for her third goal of the season. Her two assists were her first two of the year.
LCU took 19 shots in the match as a team, 10 put on target.
Marta Papandrea (1-1-1) worked the first half and was credited with three saves while conceding a goal.
Sara Mendivelso played the second half and made four saves while not conceding any. LCU goalkeepers faced 15 shots from the Ladies, eight put on frame.
The Wildcats continue the road trip on Monday, heading to Walnut Ridge, Ark. to take on Williams Baptist. Kickoff of Monday's contest against the Eagles (3-0-1) is set for 12 p.m. at the WBU Soccer Field.
