Top 25 Matchup for Wildcats at ETBU

After a 1-4 week against Birmingham-Southern and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and suffering their first American Southwest Conference series loss of the season, the Wildcats dropped to the #25 spot in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association rankings. They travel to East Texas Baptist University this weekend for a matchup with the #13 ranked Tigers. The series is scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch on Friday and a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.

East Texas Baptist  |  24-6 (16-5)

The Tigers have won their last four games in a row, including a three game sweep at the Ozarks last weekend. The Tigers are 16-5 in ASC play this season, two games behind the Wildcats for the second spot in the tournament. ETBU is second in the conference in team batting with a .345 average and leads the ASC in home runs with 28. They are averaging 6.7 runs per game this year. They have three players batting over .400 on the season, led by Linzie Lewis with a .467 average. She has 50 hits on the year and five home runs. Jayme Perez leads the team with eight home runs, 43 RBI and nine doubles.

The Tigers have the conferences third best pitching staff, with a 2.36 team earned run average and are second in the conference in strikeouts with 130 this season. They are allowing 2.8 runs per game this year. Rocki Tello leads the pitching staff with 86.1 innings pitched this year and a 1.95 ERA. She has 10 complete games, allowed 24 earned runs and struck out 40 batters this year. Jordan Anderson has thrown 72.1 innings and leads the team with 72 strikeouts and allowed 28 earned runs this year.

The Wildcats lost their first conference series of the year last weekend to UMHB after Savannah Settle threw the second perfect game by a single pitcher in school history to take game one of the weekend. Settle threw a no-hitter earlier this season against Howard Payne. She leads the conference with 13 complete games, strikeouts with 117 and a 10.2 strikeout per game average, innings pitched at 103.2, and a conference best .164 opponents batting average. Darian Thacker is second on the team with 39.1 innings of work and has a 2.14 ERA and a 5-1 overall record.

Mattie Stine leads the LC offense with a .411 batting average with team-highs in hits (39), doubles (11), RBI (28) and walks (12). Shelby Bergeron and Sami Walters continue to be spark plugs at the top of the Wildcats lineup, with both batting over .300 this season and a combined 40-for-45 in stolen bases this year and 55 runs scored between them.

The Wildcats have a chance to clinch a playoff spot with one win in the series, with the top six team earning a seed in the post season tournament. The three game series against ETBU begins on Friday night at 6 p.m. and ends with a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m. LC returns to Wildcat Park the following weekend for their final home series of the season against the University of Texas at Tyler.
