Lady Wildcats Take Streak to Hardin-Simmons

The Louisiana College Lady Wildcats softball team is currently on a 10-game winning streak entering their weekend American Southwest Conference series against Hardin-Simmons University. The Wildcats will play a doubleheader against the Cowgirls on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. and finish the series with a single game Saturday at 11 a.m.

3975After a 2-9 start to the season, the Cowgirls have won their last five games in a row including a sweep of the University of the Ozarks last weekend and a doubleheader sweep of Austin College on Tuesday of this week. LC and HSU have played two common opponents this season, Concordia and Ozarks, the Wildcats have a 5-1 record against those teams while Hardin-Simmons is 4-2, dropping two games to Concordia at the end of February. HSU has seven players with a .300 batting average or higher on the season, led by junior outfielder Ashley Brown with a .438 average. She leads the team in runs scored with 10 and is tied for second in hits with 14. They rank fifth in the conference as a team with a .324 average on the season.

In the circle, the Cowgirls have three pitchers with more than 20.0 innings of work this season. Genia Jones has thrown the most innings at 29.1, with only two starts on the year, and has the second lowest ERA on the team at 3.58. Chloe Brignac leads the team in ERA at 2.07 in 23.2 innings of work and a 3-2 record in five starts. They rank eighth in the conference in ERA as a team at 4.94 and next to last in strikeouts with 32 total on the season.

5201The Lady Wildcats are riding a 10-game winning streak that includes three game sweeps of their last three opponents, all in ASC play. The streak is the longest since the 2015 season that had a 12-game winning streak at the beginning of the year. The Wildcats have done it with the conferences best pitching staff, led by ace Savannah Settle. The junior has had three dominating starts in a row giving up six hits and just one run in her last three starts, all Wildcats wins, including her five inning no-hitter against Howard Payne. The pitching staff has the conferences best ERA at 1.12  and also leads the ASC in strikeouts with 92. They also lead the conference in least number of hits (75), runs (23), and walks (14).

Offensively the Wildcats have gotten the bulk of their production from the top of their lineup. The first six batters in the LC order are all batting over .300 on the season and have over 80% of the teams total hits and have scored over 70% of the teams total runs. Mattie Stine leads the team with a .451 average and also leads LC with 23 hits and 18 RBI and tied for the team lead in doubles with five. The Wildcats rank seventh in the conference hitting and lead the conference in fewest team strikeouts this year.

LC and Hardin-Simmons will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday in Abeline and finish the series with a single game Saturday at 11 a.m. The Wildcats return to Wildcat Park next weekend for a non-conference series against Belhaven University.
