Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Louisiana College Lady Wildcats won yet another three game series on Friday afternoon by taking both games of a doubleheader against Belhaven University at Wildcat Park. LC won the game one pitcher's dual 3-1 by scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth, and game two 5-2 with four unanswered runs to come from behind. The Wildcats will go for their fifth straight series sweep Saturday at 12 p.m.

Game 1

The first game of the doubleheader was a pitcher's dual from the very beginning. LC starter Savannah Settle and the Blazer's Taylor Surrento did not allow a hit through the first two innings of play. It wasn't until the top of the third when Settle gave up the game's fir base knock on a 2-out single up the middle. The inning quickley ended two batter's later on a fly ball to center.

It wasn't until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Wildcats would finally get in the hit column on an infield single by Kourtney Herrera with 1-out. The next to LC batters would connect on pitches but hit them right to Belhaven defenders to eliminate the chance at the first run of the game.

In the top of the sixth Belhaven had a runner at first with 2-out in the inning, when a double to left field allowed the runner to come all the way around to score and give the Blazers a 1-0 lead mid way through the sixth. In the bottom of the inning, a single off the bat of Sami Walters and a steal of second put the Wildcats tying run in scoring position. Back-to-back bunts from Taylor Hammock and Shea Smith moved Walters to third and brought her in on the Smith squeeze bunt to tie the game. After a steal of second, LC had runners at second and third when Morgan Dennis delivered a double to left center to put the Wildcats up 3-1 oin their fourth hit of the inning.

Savannah Settle was able to finish off the seventh inning for her 10th complete game of the season and ninth win. She went 7.0 innings allowing one run on five hits with eight strikeouts, adding to her team and conference lead in the category. Five Wildcats had one hit in the game, with Morgan Dennis giving LC the game winning runs in the sixth on her double. Sami Walters went 1-for-2 with a walk, run scored and two stolen bases.

Game 2

The second game of the day started much different for LC. A lead off single from Shelby Bergeron and a steal of second put her at second base. Back-to-back ground outs from Walters and Stine gave LC the 1-0 lead as Bergeron slide home on the ground out by Stine.

In the third, a hit to right that skipped away from Bergeron in center allowed the Blazers runner on first, to come all the way around to score and put the batter at third base with just 1-out. A base hit from the next batter put Belhaven ahead 2-1, and the Wildcats would get out of the inning thanks to a baserunner error between second and third to end the inning.

The Blazer lead was short lived as a lead off walk from Haley Vezinat and a steal, put the tying run at second base with 1-out. A passed ball moved her to third and an infield single that Sami Walters beat out on a bang-bang play allowed Vezinat to come in to score. Mattie Stine blasted the next pitch off the center field wall to bring Walters around from first and put LC back on top 3-2 after three innings of play.

The Wildcats picked up an insurance run in the bottom of thr fourth, on the first collegiate hit from Cheyenne Guillory just over the head of the first baseman bringing in Morgan Dennis from third. They added another run in the sixth, on a ground ball to first that was mishandled and rolled up the right field line that allowed Shea Smith to run in from second base on the play.

Taylor Leger started the game and pitched 4.0 innings, allowing two runs, neither of them earned, on four hits with two strikeouts, for her fourth win of the season. Chelsea Lewis got a three inning save, not allowing a hit and striking out three. The Wildcats had five hits in the game, with Mattie Stine getting two RBI in the game, one coming on her double in the third.

The Wildcats will attempt to get their fifth consecutive series sweep on Saturday, with a 12 p.m. start time. A win would match the second longest winning streak since the 2009 season.
