Wildcats End Season at Belhaven

The miracle run that the Louisiana College Wildcats men's basketball team went on that gave them a shot at potentially stealing a spot in the 2017 American Southwest Conference tournament ended last Thursday with a home loss to the University of Texas at Dallas Comets. The Wildcats finished what was a tumultuous home schedule with a 90-85 win over Ozarks last Saturday, to end the year 5-1 in true home games this season. LC will play their final game of the season on the road Saturday against Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss.

4410The Blazers will play a pair of games this weekend as they take on East Texas Baptist University on Thursday before playing host to the Wildcats on Saturday for senior day. Belhaven is on a three game losing streak entering their game against ETBU and are 0-2 against the Tigers and Wildcats already this season, losing back-to-back games in mid-January in Marshall and Pineville. The Blazers are led offensively by Brandon Pressley who averages 14.7 points per game and 8.9 rebounds, with three other players also averaging in double figures on the season. The Blazers rank just ahead of the Wildcats in team scoring at 74.7 points per game and near the bottom of the ASC in scoring defense, allowing 88.7 points to their opponents. As a team they are shooting 42.9% from the field and 67.3% from the free throw line.


Louisiana College | 8-14 (5-11)

5201The Wildcats have won four of their last five game, all at H.O. West Fieldhouse, and are coming off a 90-85 victory over Ozarks on senior day last Saturday afternoon. While LC has been great at home this year, 5-1 in true home games, they have struggled on the road, going 1-9, with the lone win coming over Ozarks in mid January. The Wildcats will look to pick up their second win over Belhaven on Saturday to finish the season 5-1 in the final month. The Wildcats are shooting 44.5% from the floor on the season and 65.4% from the free throw line. Senior Raheem Regis has led the Cats in scoring and rebounding all season with a 17.0 and 8.9 average. Freshman Taylan Grogan has been nothing short of excellent since the calendar changed to 2017, averaging 18.5 points during that stretch.


LC will close the season at Belhaven Saturday afternoon and then wait for the ASC All-Conference awards to be announced after the conference tournament. All-Conference awards will be announce the Monday following the ASC Tournament with several Wildcats in contention for major honors.
