Ozarks | 2-1 (2-1)

5142Ozarks began their season last weekend with a series win on the road at Howard Payne. The Eagles won the first two games on last Friday by a score of 11-0 and 2-1, the second game ending in extra innings after an RBI single to left in the top of the ninth inning gave Ozarks the lead. The Eagles are led in batting by their senior first baseman Krysten Shavers, who went 6-for-11 (.545) in the opening series with a double and two RBI. Second on the team is freshman Haley Hardy with a .400 average and one RBI. In the circle the combination of juniors Katie Ventress and Hannah Oler have thrown ever inning thus far for the Eagles. Oler appeared in all three of the Eagles games last weekend with a 1-1 record and a 2.63 ERA. She gave up four runs on eight hits and struck out six in 10.2 innings of work.

Louisiana College | 5-2 (2-1)

5201After winning the first two games of the season over Millsaps on their opening weekend, the Wildcat had an up and down first full week of the season. A split of a double-header on Tuesday at Centenary and another double-header split with Concordia on Friday. The Wildcat led 3-1 in the sixth inning of the second game against the Tornado before a 2-out home run gave Concordia the 4-3 lead and eventually the win. LC bounced back nicely after the tough loss to beat the Tornado 5-1 on Saturday behind a stellar pitching performance from Darian Thacker in her first start of the season. The Wildcats currently have four players hitting over .300 on the season, led by junior slugger Mattie Stine at .478 and freshman sensation Shea Smith at .538. Stine and Smith have combined to drive in half of the team's 22 RBI. In the circle for LC, three different pitchers have started a game, with senior Taylor Leger sitting at a perfect 3-0 in three starts with a 0.93 ERA. Junior Savannah Settle has suffered two tough losses in the early season but still has just a 1.75 ERA in 20.0 innings of work.

With the start of a 6-game road stretch over the next two weekends, the Wildcats will look to get as many wins as they can, while still nailing down a lineup and defensive alignment in the process. LC plays a double-header on Friday afternoon beginning at 12 p.m. and will finish the series in Arkansas with a single game on Saturday at 11 a.m. Live video and statistics are available via the University of the Ozarks, through the links provided above.
