Cats Fall 2-0 on Senior Day

10/29/2017 11:27:00 AM

Box Score

Saturday afternoon's American Southwest Conference match against the Patriots of the Univ. of Texas at Tyler concluded the regular season for the Louisiana College men's soccer team. It was also senior day, honoring four seniors, Charles Firmin, Nathan Gautreaux, Todd Ryals, and Victor Villavieja. The senior day celebrations would be short lived as two, second half goals would be too much for the Cats to handle, dropping them to 1-15(1-11) on the season.

Lucky for the Cats only two goals were scored as the Patriots assaulted Nathan Gautreaux's goal with 30 shots, landing 13 between the goals posts. Gautreaux stopped 11 of the shots and at times made consecutive saves to keep the Cats alive.

But eventually, Gautreaux would be beaten. In the 69th minute, Jose Poo would connect with a ball crossed in from a corner volleying it past the keeper for the first score. In the dying minutes of the game on a counter-attack, the Patriots would get a second goal. In the 90th minute, Steven Soriano tapped in a back post cross to make it a final score, 2-0.

The Cat's offense was limited and unfruitful, finishing the game without a shot but at times their attack looked promising and dangerous, the final ball just was not there.

With a roster full of first time players, the next step for head coach Claudy St. Louis is the off-season, where he will look to improve his team for the next season. For more on the LC Men's Soccer Team's off-season progress, follow them on Facebook under Louisiana College Men's Soccer, and on Instagram and Twitter at LC_MSOC.
