Box Score

Wrapping up the final road trip of the season, the Lady Wildcats faced off against the Yellow Jackets of LeTourneau Univ. in Longview, TX Friday afternoon. A solid first-half performance by LeTourneau put the Cats away with three goals, adding two more in the second to finish the game 5-0.

Rebekah Stevenson opened the score sheet up in the 11th minute behind a high shot over Cats keeper Haley Clark. The ball was passed in from the left side of the goal but a deflection put the ball on the right side where Stevenson was waiting. Taking a touch to control the ball, she shot the ball just over Clark 's fingers to make it 1-0.

Exactly 10 minutes later, LC would be unraveled again. Floating along the Cat's back line, Yellow Jacket forward Keely Hayden waited for a through ball to put her onto goal. She got what she wanted in the 21st minute, beating the last defender to go one on one with Clark, sliding her shot under Clark to make it 2-0.

A few minutes later LeTourneau would strike again. Moving the ball into Cat territory after Yellow Jacket keeper Carrye Funk stopped Bethel Chibesa's shot, starting the counter with a series of quick passes. Working the ball up to the front line, the final pass would find Kelli Sonnier in space to go at Clark. Shooting from distance the right-footed shot was too much for Clark to bring the score to 3-0.

The Cats did not sit back the entire game, in the first half three chances were created and three shots found the frame of goal making Funk work to save the shots. Out of the seven shots on the night, five were on target. Funk finished with five saves, while  Clark faced 20 shots, 14 on frame, saving nine of them.

In the second half, two more goals would be scored. In the 50th minute, Jennifer Martin headed in a goal off of a corner kick and in the 78th minute Alexis Tomlinson would beat the defense on a through ball and then place her shot past Clark for the fifth and final goal.

The Lady Cats (2-11-2, 1-8) return home for the final two matches of the season, taking on the Eagles of the Univ. of the Ozarks Thursday afternoon in an American Southwest Conference fixture.
