Wildcats Shut Out at LeTourneau

The Cats Finished up their final away series against the LeTourneau Univ. Yellow Jackets Friday night in Longview, TX. The American Southwest Conference match would see two LeTourneau goals, one in each half, being enough to beat the Wildcats in regulation.

An error from an LC defender allowed LeTourneau to go up early in the match. Failing to clear the ball, the defender was dispossessed and taking advantage of it, Guillermo Torres finished the loose ball one time into the side netting 15 minutes in.

Both sides held the ball well and traveled down the field with ease at times but neither defense was cracked again in the first half.

Twelve minutes into the second half LeTourneau earned a corner off a deflected ball. Sending it to the backside of the goal, an LC miscue teed up David Trost for a one-time blast two yards from goal. The 58th-minute shot made it 2-0.

Frustration from bad calls by the referees showed in the Cats. Seeming like every call was against the Cats, there was a lack of flow to the game, stopping constantly to address the questionable decision.

The disruption showed in the attack, LC took eight shots; one was between the goal posts whereas LeTourneau took 22 with seven shots on frame. The Cats were in dangerous positions but the final touch or pass was not there. The majority of the shots were far away from the goal or the passes were lacking direction.

The Cats did not quit, they continued to play until the final whistle, but they needed more time for a comeback. Yellow Jacket keeper Miguel Cabrera finished with a clean sheet and one save while Cat keeper Nathan Gautreaux had five saves.
