Late Miscue Costs Wildcats against ETBU

On the road Thursday afternoon, the Wildcats faced off against American Southwest Conference rival East Texas Baptist Univ. Tigers in Marshall, TX. The game was close until the end, finishing 2-1 after an LC own goal broke the tie in the 82^nd minute.

Both sides had plenty of chances on goal but the game would not be changed until the 24th minute when Michael Andrews headed in a Max Ponticorvo corner kick. LC would try to level in the first but their shots were no danger for Tiger keeper Bryant Botello as most flew over his net. The Tiger attack was limited but Cat Keeper Nathan Gautreaux was in position when they did attack collecting two saves on the night.

The final 45 minutes were a do or die situation, needing a win to have a chance on going to conference playoffs, the Cats threw everything and the kitchen sink at the Tigers.

Botello was forced to make five big saves to keep the game away from the Cats but in the 72nd minute, Francisco Silvestre would tie the game with a floating 30-yard shot that hit the crossbar and went into the goal.

The Cats were riding a confidence wave controlling the game; in the 82nd minute, that wave would hit the rocks. On a passage of play, ETBU was in the Cats half and a cross was sent in from the right side and stepping to head the ball clear an LC defender instead flicked the ball into the goal for an own goal.

The Cats still tried to come back and nearly did but a questionable offsides decision after a Silvestre goal ended the comeback. The Tigers were able to hold on and win 2-1.
