Â
Returning back into American Southwest Conferecne play Saturday afternoon, the Lady Wildcats of Louisiana College welcomed the visiting Sul Ross State Universiity Lobos from Alpine, TX. The afternoon games would go into a second overtime periord scoreless, until SRSU's Britney Berumen's volley chipped Cat keeper
Haley Clark in the 103rd minuted, giving the Lobos the 1-0 victory.
Leading up to the overtime finish, the Lobos had 26 shot to LC's three; thirteen of the Lobo shots were on frame. Clark kept the Cats in the game with big saves, at times diving and sticking her hands out to stop the ball or coming out of her box to challenge an attacking Lobo. Clark claimed twelve saves while Lobo keeper Ashlie Rojas did not face any shots.
Â
The lack of productive offense kept the Cats on the defense and Sul Ross in control. The Cats had few chances in Lobo territory, the speed of sophomore forward
Ashlynn Folse was too much for the Lobo defense but without any help, she was kept in check.
Â
After 90 minutes both sides were tied at zero and for conference games, overtime is required, that includes two, ten-minute halves with any goal ending the game in the scoring teams favor.
Â
The first overtime saw a golden opportunity for the Lobos after a foul on top of the 18-yard box but a wide shot dissolved the pressure. Taking a two-minute break after the first overtime the game resumed and three minutes in, the game-winning goal would be scored.
Â
Berumen would attack a loose ball on the left side of the Cats and from just inside the box she would fire a volleyed shot over Clark to the right side netting of the goal ending the game.
Â
The Cats (2-9-2, 1-7) have a week to prepare for 4:30 p.m. matchup against ASC rival East Texas Baptist Univ. on Thursday in Marshall, TX. For more on the Lady Wildcats follow them on Facebook under Louisiana College Women's Soccer and Twitter at LC_WSOC.
