Two Double-Doubles Not Enough for Men

1/21/2017 5:50:00 PM

Box Score

Despite three players scoring in double figures and two earning double-doubles, the Louisiana College men were not able to overcome a 6-for-30 first half shooting performance against the UT Dallas Comets, Saturday afternoon, falling on the road 69-54.

The Comets held a 4-0 lead early in the game before Raheem Regis got the Wildcats on the board, scoring the first of his 14 points in the game. The game remained close through the early parts of the half until a five-point UTD lead turned into a 15-point lead over the span of three minutes. The 10-0 run by the Comets at the mid-way point of the half put the game in their control for the rest of the afternoon. Another 8-2 run to end the first half have Dallas the 35-17 lead going into the break.

In the second half, the Wildcats were able to chip into the lead on a couple different occasions, pulling within eight points at one point but the lack of depth on the bench proved to be LC's downfall on Saturday. A layup by Mike Davis with 15:17 left to go got the Wildcats within nine and a layup at the 5:06 mark from Regis pull them within eight but that was all LC could manage.

The Wildcats were outshot 36.1% to 42.9% from the field for the game, marred by the 20% performance from the first half. They were 56.3% from the free throw line in the game and made just one shot from long range on 17 attempts.

Freshman Taylan Grogan did lead all scorers with 15 points in the contest and Raheem Regis picked up his second straight double-double with 14 points to go along with his 11 rebounds. Lejawon LeBlanc has taken advantage of the increased playing time with the absence of Parker, Evans, and Hill, getting his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Wildcats will play two of their final three road games of the season next week as they travel to ASC East leaders UT Tyler and LeTourneau.  LC will return to H.O. West Fieldhouse on February 2 to take on LeTourneau to start a five-game home stand in Pineville.
