Box Score
The Louisiana College football team did something they haven't done three years on Saturday night, beat Texas Lutheran.  The Wildcats were able take advantage of six Bulldog turnovers and some fortuitous bounces of the football, to take a 58-28 win and improve to 2-1 on the season.

After missing last week's game against Texas College, senior quarterback Easton Melancon was not going to be denied an opportunity to play against a team the he and the other seniors had never beaten. Melancon led his team to the victory with his second 400 plus yard, five touchdown game of the season.

Melancon said after the game, "Thats was a big game for us. The seniors are 0-3 against these guys and we didnt want to go 0-4 in our career here. I definitely missed being out there last week, so it feels really good to come back and get a big win like this before conference play starts."

The Wildcats started the scoring with a 31-yard field goal by Charles Firmin at the mid-way point of the first quarter. With LC down 7-3 after a Bulldog touchdown on the ensuing drive, the next two Wildcat scores were two of the most exciting plays of the game.  Shed Davis produced a 60-yard catch and run for his first score of the night and then mid-way through the second quarter corner back Willie Smith intercepted a TLU pass off of a deflection and returned it 98-yards for a touchdown, the second week in a row that the Wildcat defense produced a pick six, giving LC a 16-7 lead.

TLU answered with a touchdown of their own to pull within 2-points on Tre Scallion's second rushing touchdown of the night, but the Wildcats would start to pull away and pull away quickly.  LC scored two touchdowns in the final four minutes of the first half, a 61-yard touchdown catch off of a deflection that somehow fell right to Lawrence Williams and a Lamar Carroway 6-yard run on an end around with 0:43 seconds left in the half and LC would lead 30-14 at the break.

"Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good," Melancon said of the wild play for the touchdown, "Lawrence was able to make a great play, like he usually does. That guy has great hands and great ball skills, he definitely bailed me out on that one, but that just shows you that football is a team sport, anything can happen but your team always has your back."

The Wildcats continued to pull away in the third quarter taking the opening possession ending in a 25-yard touchdown pass to Lamar Carroway in the back of the endzone. With a 51-21 lead in the fourth quarter the Bulldogs had the ball second and goal at the two yard line but were unable to punch it in thanks to a terrific goal line stand by the Wildcat defense. On the ensuing Wildcat possession Aurren Cooksey, who was held in check most of the night, broke free for a 74-yard touchdown to cap off the Wildcats scoring.

Coach Dennis Dunn said after the game, "This game and this results goes back to the offseason and the blue collar approach that our team took. We knew Huntingdon was going to be great but TLU has been a measuring stick for us. They were coming here to get their first win of the year after two difficult games against ETBU and Mary Hardin-Baylor, and our guys had to answer that call, and tonight they did."

Quarterback Easton Melancon had one of the best games of his great career throwing for 414 yards on 22-33 attempts and five touchdowns.  Shedrick Davis led all receivers with eight catches for 170 yards and two scores, and Aurren Cooksey rushed for 118 yards on 19 carries with a touchdown.

Defensively the Wildcats put together another impressive night, forcing six turnovers for the second straight game including a defensive touchdown on Willie Smith's pick six. Anthony Hargrave totaled nine tackles with Orel Ledet Jr and Josh Pickett right behind with eight. Kedrick Vance and Cade Maxwell picked up sacks on back to back plays in the third quarter.

Dunn praised the defense for their performance, "Can't say enough about the defense and how Coach Charles and his staff have continued to prepare our guys.  Last year they felt was an indictment on them, and they have come in with a chip on their shoulder this year and played the kind of ball that they're playing. We're just going to continue to get better."

The Wildcats will have their off week next Saturday before their second of three consecutive home games on October 1 as they host Howard Payne in the ASC opener.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm at Wildcat Field.
