Texas Lutheran vs Louisiana College Wildcats
Wildcat Field (Pineville, LA)
Start Time: 6 p.m. CST
Huntingdon Record: 0-2
LC Record: 1-1

The Louisiana College Wildcats return home to Wildcat Field Saturday night for a matchup with former and future ASC rival Texas Lutheran.  Kickoff is scheduled for 6 pm as Louisiana College celebrates Community Appreciation Night at the game.

Coming off of their first victory of the season, a 49-18 win over Texas College, the Wildcats are hoping to continue the momentum that they gained in last week's game.  The biggest story out of that game was the performance by the defense that put together a true team performance with six interceptions from five different players, a total of six sacks, and only allowed Texas College to gain 79 yards in the first half.  The Wildcats matched the total number of interceptions from 2015 in just one game against Texas College. With all-conference caliber players like Willie Smith, Orel Ledet Jr. , and Lecorey Demease, it should come as no surprise when there are games like last week.

The defense will certainly be challenged this week as they take on one of, if not the best, running back in the country in Texas Lutheran's Marquis Barrolle. The senior from Ingleside, TX led the nation in rushing two years ago and has been a thorn in the side of the Wildcats for the last two years.

Coach Dennis Dunn said, "They've got probably the best running back in the nation in Marquis Barrolle, who gave us fits the last two years. He is just hard to tackle, you've got to do your best to contain #5, he's so shifty that even if you are in good position, he can still make you miss."

Barrolle leads the team through the first two games with 148 yards on 34 carries, but those numbers are a bit deceiving because of the matchups the Bulldogs have had thus far this year.

After an 8-2 season in 2015 that included a third straight SCAC championship, Texas Lutheran started the season ranked #21 in the nation but had the tough task of ETBU and Mary Hardin-Baylor for their first games on the schedule.  Both the Tigers and Cru are now ranked in the top 25 with UMHB sitting at #5 in the country, so needless to say the competition has been fierce for the Bulldogs in the early goings.  Even with an 0-2 record however, Coach Dunn and the Wildcats, especially the seniors are looking at this game with a huge emphasis.

Dunn said, "These seniors are 0-3 against Texas Lutheran, so this is a game they have had their eyes on since last year ended.  This is the kind of game where you can throw the records of the teams out, because they will play for four quarters. Much like Huntingdon, they'll be a team you have to beat, they aren't going to beat themselves, they're not going to make mistakes, so you've got to go in and game plan these guys and take it to them and beat them."

With as well as the defense played last week, the Wildcats offense has been just as if not more impressive.  LC has scored 49 points in each of their first two games of the season for a total of 98, which is the most points scored to start a season in school history, and they have done so with two different quarterbacks. With an injury keeping Easton Melancon out last week, D'Ondre Joseph stepped right in and racked up over 200 yards of total offense and was responsible for four total touchdowns.

Texas Lutheran returns only three starters from last year's team, so the experience that LC has across the board on offense should play into the Wildcats favor on Saturday.  Senior running back Aurren Cooksey will again be a focal point for the offense and needs 101 yards to pass Leon Maxie for third all time in career rushing yards.

Saturday is also Community Appreciation Night at Wildcat Field, where members of the local community will be recognized and honored for their continued support of Louisiana College and Louisiana College athletics.

Dunn said, "We thank this community so much for embracing Louisiana College football and the positive things that are happening on our campus.  We appreciate what you do for Louisiana College and Louisiana College football, so come see this product and we hope that we represent you very well in the coming weeks ahead."

Kickoff against Texas Lutheran is scheduled for 6 pm and can be heard on 104.3 FM KEZP The Bridge with Rich Dupree and Al Quartemont, or watched on lcwildcats.net via live video stream.  The Wildcats will have the week off next Saturday before returning to action on October 1st at Wildcat Field against Howard Payne for the ASC conference opener.
