UT-Dallas Get Both Games of Double Header

The Louisiana College softball team lost both games of a double-header on Friday night to UT-Dallas and in the process the chance at the 3 seed in the ASC Tournamnet next week. The Comets used 3-run innings in game one and two to come away with the wins. The series finale is scheduled for noon Saturday and senior recognition prior to the game at 11:30 for the four graduating Wildcat softball players.

In the first game of the double dip with both teams aces in the circle, neither team was able to put much of a threat together offensively until Dallas was able to capitalize on a Wildcat error to socre a run and then added two more on two more hits. The Wildcats would load the bases with no outs in the 6th inning but were unable to get any runs in after three consecutive pop ups in the infield.

Kourtney Herrera reached base twice with a hit and a walk, and Savannah Settle pitched a complete game with 6 strikeouts and 6 hits allowed.

In the night cap the Comets would once again score three runs after a Wildcat error after a 2-run single up the middle. The addd two more runs in the next inning on a double to left center to extend the lead to 5-0 after four innings of play. With the score 6-0 in the sixth inning Mattie Stine was able to connect on a pitch and send a no doubter over the right centerfield wall for her second home run of the season. LC would not be able to mount any rally after that however and fall to the Comets 7-1 in game two.

The two loses by the Wildcats combined with two wins by LeTourneau over Howard-Payne have dropped LC to the 6 spot in the conference tournament. A win tomorrow and a Yellowjacket lose would create a three way tie between LC, LeTourneau, and Mary Hardin-Baylor. First pitch for the series finale is set for noon but fans are encouraged to come out early for a special presentation for the four senior players.
