Softball Drops Doubleheader to UMHB

The LC Lady Wildcats (16-12 (14-6)) lost both games of the double header on Friday to Mary Hardin-Baylor, each by 1 run. Game 1 ended in a 2-1 final and game 2 in a 5-4 extra inning win for the Cru. The series finale will be played Saturday starting at 12pm in Belton, TX.

In game 1 the Lady Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the third when Mattie Stine reached on a Cru error that allowed Morgan Dennis to score. Mary Hardin-Baylor would tie the game and take the lead on a RBI double in the 4th and a RBI single in 5th. Five different Wildcats had hits in the game led by Kourtney Herrera with 2 singles. Savannah Settle took the tough loss only allowing 2 runs to score in the complete game performance.

Game 2 went to extra innings after the Lady Wildcats would rally for 3-runs in the top of the 6th to tie the game at 4. Jordan Mason and Jessica Johnson got back to back extra base hits to score the first 2 runs with no outs in the inning. After Johnson advanced to third on a wild pitch, a Jayde Westbrook single would bring her home to tie the game. Mary Hardin-Baylor would get the walk off win after a double to start the bottom of the 9th and then an RBI single 2 batters later.

Both Jordan Mason and Jessica Johnson went 3-4 in the game and Mattie Stine went 3-5. Chelsea Lewis suffered her first loss of the year in the circle for the Wildcats even though she only allowed 2 runs over 5.0 innings of work in the game.

The series finale of the three game set is set for 12pm on Saturday. The Lady Wildcats will return home for a three game series with ETBU on April 8-9.
