Box Score 2 The Lady Wildcats Softball team rebounded quickly after a tough 3-2 loss in game one of the series with LeTourneau Tuesday that saw the Lady Jackets rally for 3 runs in the top of the 7th. LC was able to take advantage of some LeTourneau errors in both games on Wednesday and for the first time in a few games get the hits to fall where they hadn't before. The Wildcats would take game two of the series 4-1 and game three 6-0.
Mattie Stine got the Lady Wildcats on the board early in the bottom of the first with an RBI ground out that scored Kelsey Kelly, who reached on a leadoff bunt single. From that point on the pitchers controlled much of the game until LeTourneau were able to tie the game in the top of the 6th on a single into right field. The Lady Wildcats would respond right away with a 3-run bottom half of the inning that was aided by 3 LeTourneau errors. Stine led off the inning with a double and then pinch runner Alyssa Ross scored on a triple by Kourtney Herrera to right field. LC would get 2 more runs on a wild pitch and a throwing error by the Jackets catcher trying to get Kayla Busby stealing.Morgan Dennis went 2-3 at the plate in game 1 and played excellent defense at shortstop, both
Kourtney Herrera and
Mattie Stine went 1-3 with an RBI.
Darian Thacker pitched a complete game for the win scattering 6 hits over 7.0 inning of work and only allowing 1 run to cross the plate.
Just as in the first game of the double header were LC got out to an early lead they did that and more in game two. The Lady Wildcats were up 5-0 after two innings of play and never looked back to take the series finale and the series with a score of 6-0. Once again it was
Mattie Stine leading the charge offensively going 2-4 with 2 RBI,
Abby Maillet also had 2 RBI on one hit in the game. Abby doubled in Stine and Westbrook in the bottom of the first to give the Lady Wildcats a 2-0 lead just 4 batters into the game. LC was once again able to take advantage of some costly LeTourneau errors in the second game scoring 3 unearned runs in the game.
Savannah Settle got the win in the finale going 5.0 innings and only allowing 2 hits and stiking out 4.
Chelsea Lewis pitched the final two frames to hold the shutout in tact for the Wildcats.
The Lady Wildcats improved to 16-8 overall and 14-4 in conference. They will have two road trips next week during Louisiana College's Spring Break, going to Birmingham-Southern on Tuesday for a doubleheader then to conference foe Mary Hardin-Baylor next weekend. The next home series for the team will not be until April 8-9 when they host ETBU.
