Box Score 3 The Wildcat softball team improves to 8-1 with three game sweep of the University of Ozarks (2-4).
The sweep started with a doubleheader on Friday. Â In game 1, the Wildcats took down the Eagles by a score of 3-2. Â
Savannah Settle got her fourth win (4-0) as she pitched another complete game. Â Settle gave up 2 runs (1 earned), on 2 hits and striking out 12. Â Three Wildcats had multiple hits. Â
Mattie Stine,
Shelby Bergeron, and
Sydney Falcon all went 2-for-3. Â
Elani Woods,
Sydney Falcon, and
Ellen Bairnsfather each got an RBI a piece.
The night game on Friday took extra innings to finally get a decision in favor of LC 4-3. Â Both teams finished the 7th in a 1-1 tie. Â In the top of the 8th, Ozarks scored two runs with the help of a hit batter, sacrifice bunts, and timely hits. Â In the bottom half of the 8th, Ellen Bairnsfat,
Jayde Westbrook, and
Mattie Stine all singled to load up the bases with 1 out. Â M Wampler then came up with the clutch hit that brought in two runs to tie the game at 3. Â
Regan LeJeune walked, then S Bergeron hit the game winning single to right field, scoring Stine and giving the Wildcats a 4-3 victory. Â
Darian Thacker (2-0) went all 8 innings for the win. Â She gave up 3 runs (2 earned), on 9 hits, 8 strikeouts, and only 1 walk.
The following morning had the Wilcats winning 4-1. Â
Savannah Settle (5-0) threw all 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 3 strike outs. Â
Mattie Stine went 2-3, and
Jordan Mason went 1-2 with 2 RBI's. Â
Following this series, the Wildcats improve to 8-1 overall, 6-0 in conference. Â They play Howard Payne in a 3 game series, starting with a doubleheader on Friday, February 26th at 1:00 p.m., and a single game the following day.
