Softball Completes 4 Game Sweep of Concordia

The Louisiana College Wildcat Softball team (5-1) went on the road this past weekend and took four games from Concordia TX (0-4).  

Savannah Settle was the highlight of the first game, pitching a complete game four hitter, while giving up no runs and striking out twelve on her way to the win by a score of 3-0.  Heather Simmmons knocked in two RBIs, and Mattie Stine reached base all three times at bat with two hits and a walk.

Both offenses woke up for the night game of the doubleheader.  Louisiana College would win a close one 4-3, with the cats getting nine hits and Concordia getting 5.  Darian Thacker got her first win of the season, pitching a complete game.  She gave up three runs, all earned, five hits, struck out five and walked two.  Leading the Wildcats in hitting was Jordan Mason, who went three-for-four with a triple and an RBI.

In game three of the series, LC held off a late Concordia rally to witn 5-2.  The Wildcats scored three runs in the top of the 6th to get a 5-0 lead.  Concordia scored two in the bottom half of the last inning to make it close.  Savannah Settle threw the complete game again.  She only gave up 2 runs, all earned, on six hits, while striking out six batters and not walking anyone.  She improves to 3-0 on the year.  Elani Woods lead the charge with two hits and two RBIs.

In the series finale, Concordia jumped out to a 0-1 lead in the first inning, but the Wildcats scored two runs in the 4th, and two more in the 5th to take the lead.  Concordia scored one in last, but it wasn't enough, leaving LC to take the victory by a score of 4-2.  Taylor Leger (1-1) got her first win of the season, going 5 innings, giving up 1 run (unearned), two hits, and striking out 1.  Chelsea Lewis got her first save by going two innings, giving up one run (earned), while also giving up one hit, and walking two.  Mattie Stine got two hits and two RBIs to lead LC's offensive production.

The Lady Wildcats come to Pineville for the home opener vs. the University of the Ozarks starting February 19th.  That Friday there will be a doubleheader, one starting at 4:00 p.m. and the other at 6:00 p.m.  The following day on Saturday, they will play one game at 11:00 a.m.
