Box Score Box ScoreUpdated Season StatsA big first inning for #18 Louisiana College was more than enough for the Lady Wildcats to complete a three-game sweep of ASC rival LeTourneau, as LC took game three 8-0 in five innings via run rule on Wednesday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field in Pineville.
Â
The Lady Cats got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by senior catcher
Courtney Ivey that drove in first baseman
Emorie Nugent for the first run of the game. LC then scratched two more runs across on a pair of wild pitches that brought in left fielder
Jordan Mason and Ivey to go ahead 3-0. Â
Â
LC got their final two runs of the inning on an RBI from right fielder
Jade Johnson and a steal of home by center fielder
Jayde Westbrook that put them up 5-0 after the first inning, as the Lady Cats sent 10 batters to the plate in the first to control the early momentum.
Â
Sophomore left-handed pitcher
Taylor Leger would assure that momentum would not slip, as she carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning and finished by throwing a complete game three-hit shutout.
Â
Ivey added another RBI in the bottom of the fourth inning on a groundout to shortstop and the Lady Cats were able to finish out the run rule victory on RBIs from Johnson and Nugent in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win.
Â
Leger moved to 5-1 on the season with the complete game shutout while Nugent (2-for-3, two runs score), Mason (2-for-3), and third baseman Regan Lejeune (2-for-2, two runs scored) led LC offensively.
Â
The Lady Wildcats sit at 23-5 overall with an 18-2 mark in ASC play after the series sweep. LC will have a short rest before Mary Hardin-Baylor comes to Pineville on Friday in an ASC series starting at 3:00 p.m. That will be LC's final ASC series before a highly anticipated series matchup with #3 East Texas Baptist beginning on April 14
