Pineville, La. - The 16th ranked Louisiana College softball team picked up two huge wins in American Southwest Conference play on Tuesday night, as they swept their doubleheader against the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders by final scores of 2-0 and 4-2 at Coca-Cola Field in Pineville.

The pair of wins put LC four games ahead of UMHB in the ASC standings, putting the Lady Cats four games ahead of the Crusaders for third place in the ASC standings.

The Lady Cats would get all the scoring they needed in the first inning of game one, as Emorie Nugent led off the game with a walk, the proceeded to go to third base after a stolen base and an errant throw by UMHB catcher Cori Drake.

Left Fielder Jordan Mason then drove in Nugent on a grounder to the shortstop before senior catcher Courtney Ivey drove in Mason on an RBI double to left center to put LC ahead 2-0.

That was all that LC freshman pitcher Savannah Settle would need, as she cruised to a complete game, three-hit shutout performance, her ASC leading eighth shutout of the 2015 season.

Game two was a back-and-forth battle that saw the Lady Wildcats pull away late on the strength of their powerful bats to come out with a 7-4 win to clinch the doubleheader sweep.

The Crusaders would take a 2-0 lead in the top of the third on a two RBI double to left center by Myranda Hinojosa, but that lead was quickly erased when LC tied the game 2-2 in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI bunt single by Ivey and a wild pitch from UMHB reliever Karen Tennis that allowed third baseman Laura Gulotta-Parrish to score.

After the Crusaders retook the lead 3-2 in the top of the fourth, LC was once again able to answer with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth on an RBI bunt single by Gulotta-Parrish and an RBI groundout by Ivey to pull ahead 4-3.

UMB would show no quit, however, as they tied the game in the top of the fifth on a hard hit RBI double off the wall in left center by designated player Faith Escobar to equal the score at 4-4.

But that was the final time that the Lady Wildcats would allow the visitors to come back, as they got a huge pinch hit RBI double to the wall in right center by Kate Hines and followed that with a pinch hit RBI single to left field by Mattie Stine to go ahead 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth. LC would get their final run of the night on a titanic home run to left center off the bat off Gulotta-Parrish in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 7-4.

Freshman pitcher Darien Thacker picked up the win in game two, her third of the season, after working the final 2 1/3 innings while allowing just one hit and no runs.

Louisiana College moves to 25-8 overall and 20-5 in ASC play with the win while UMHB now sits at 19-13 with a 17-9 mark in ASC play. The two teams will square off in the series finale on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with a win for the Lady Cats going a long way towards earning them a potential NCAA Regional bid following the ASC Tournament.
