The Louisiana College softball team got their season underway on Saturday in Tyler, Texas, as the Lady Wildcats split a doubleheader with Texas Lutheran, dropping game one in a close 3-1 decision before exploding for a 14-5 win in game two.

The Bulldogs got all the run support they needed in the first inning of game one, as they scored two runs on two hits in the top half of the first to jump out to a 2-0 advantage early.

Despite the two run frame, LC freshman pitcher Sevannah Settle was able to get comfortable as the game went on in her collegiate debut, turning in a solid outing by throwing 4.2 innings, surrendering five hits, walking none, and giving up just one earned run.

The Lady Cats certainly had their opportunities, as they left eight on base in the first game of the twin bill, but LC was unable to cash in on enough key two out hits to catch the Bulldogs as TLU took game one by a final score of 3-1.

Left fielder Jordan Mason, who went 2-3 with LC's lone RBI, led LC at the plate along with Abby Maillet, who also collected two hits in her three at-bats.

Game two appeared early on like it may be a repeat of game one, as TLU once again got out to an early 2-0 lead through one inning of play.

But an eight run the top of the fourth inning by LC turned their fortunes around, as they pounded out six hits in the frame to storm back and take a commanding 10-4 lead.

The inning was highlighted by a bases-loaded, three RBI double to left center field off the bat of senior infielder Laura Gulotta-Parrish, who had a total of six RBI and two runs scored on the day.

The top of the LC order was dominant in the win, as the first five hitters in the order combined for 10 of the Lady Cats 12 hits, led by Gulotta-Parrish, right fielder Ellen Bairnsfather (2-3, three runs scored), catcher Kate Hines (2-3, two RBI), and Maillet, who went 3-4 at the plate in the second game to finish the day with five hits in six at-bats.

LC junior pitcher Katherine Johnson picked up the win after tossing three innings and giving up four runs on six hits.

The Lady Cats will open up American Southwest Conference play next weekend in Richardson, Texas as they are scheduled to take on UT-Dallas in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 2:00 p.m. with a doubleheader.
