st Round American Southwest Conference Tournament matchup against Concordia by a final score of 96-82.
Â
The Tornadoes jumped out to a huge 57-38 lead at the half, due in large part to their 54.1% (20-37) shooting performance from the field in the first twenty minutes and their 11 forced turnovers with their suffocating full court press defense.
Â
CTX would not let off the gas early on in the second half, as they built their lead to 26 points when a pair of Rashad Coleman free throws gave the Tornadoes a 75-49 advantage with just over 13 minutes left in regulation.
Â
But just as they have all season long, the Wildcats would fight their way back into the contest with their high intensity defense, and a layup by
Kevin Cottonham at the 2:43 mark ended a 30-13 run and put LC within single digits at 88-79.
Â
But just as the Cats seemed to regain the momentum, the Tornadoes would not allow LC to get an closer, as they made seemingly every free throw down the stretch to keep the Wildcats at arm's length.
Â
CTX finished the game with a 26-29 (89.7%) mark from the free-throw line and shot 54.4% (31-57) from the field to pace their offense past LC.
Â
Sophomore post player
Steve Evans led LC in both points (24) and rebounds (8) while junior
Anthony Gaines, Jr. also registered 20 points, finishing with 20 points and seven rebounds for the game.
Â
For the Wildcats, their 14-10 record marks the first time since the 2002-2003 season that they have finished above .500 and their 14 wins is their most in a single season since 2000-2001 (their first as an NCAA Division III member) when sharpshooter Ryan Vines led the Wildcats to 19 wins.
