The Louisiana College softball team got American Southwest Conference play started with a bang on Friday, as they swept a doubleheader against Texas-Dallas, winning game one 8-1 before taking game two 7-6 in a 10 inning extra-inning nail-biter.

Game one was highlighted by a dominant outing from freshman right-handed pitcher Sevannah Settle, who tossed a complete game while giving up just two hits and one earned run while striking out six over seven innings of work.

After both teams went scoreless through the  first four innings, the Lady Wildcats busted things open in the top of the fifth with a  two-run double by senior Laura Gulotta-Parrish and another RBI double by Abby Maillet to put them up 3-0.

After UT-Dallas answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth, LC put the game away in the top of the seventh with five runs to put the game out of reach.
Senior catcher Courtney Ivey started the scoring with an RBI double that scored Emorie Nugent. Jordan Mason that with a two-run double that brought home Ivey and Maillet. Jayde Westbrook and Katelyn Hines then closed out the frame with RBIs of their own to put LC ahead 8-1 and take the first game of the doubleheader.

Game two was a much different story, as UT-Dallas battled the Lady Cats to extra innings in a hard fought game for both teams.

LC started the scoring off in the top of the first with two runs on two hits and one Comet error, highlighted by another RBI double from Parrish.

The Comets would answer immediately, however, as they tied the game in the bottom of the first with two runs of their own to make the score 2-2 after one inning.

The Lady Cats would put up another two-run frame in the top of the third inning when Ivey ripped a one-out double and eventually scored on a throwing error by the UT-Dallas third basemen. LC would add another on a run from Mason.

Carrying a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, LC looked as if they were ready to put the game away, but UT-Dallas fought back to tie the game with three runs of their own, which came on back-to-back home runs from Jessica Ramos and Megan Aragones that put the game into extra innings.

After two more scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth innings, LC would break the tie in the top of the 10th inning with an RBI sacrifice fly from second baseman Heather Scully that brought Mason around to score and eventually be the difference in the game.

Settle picked up her second win of the day in game two after tossing four scoreless innings in relief to move to 3-0 on the season.

The Lady Cats (3-1 overall, 2-0 in ASC) will take on the Comets again on Saturday in a single game beginning at 1:00 p.m.
