Going into the locker room tied at 35-35 after a turnover plagued first half, the Wildcats played responded in the second half by playing with the type of energy and intensity that had them so highly regarded in the preseason.
The Wildcats gave up 17 points on 11 first half turnovers to McMurry, but completely flipped the script by turning the ball over just four times in the final 20 minutes, not allowing the Warhawks to score off of any them while continuing their dominance in the post by outscoring McMurry 40-20 in the paint during the game.
Junior center
Raheem Regis was unstoppable at times under the basket, scoring 25 points on 12-for-20 shooting to go along with 8 rebounds.
Senior
Anthony Gaines, Jr., who got the crowd on its feet with several of his trademark fast break slam dunks, finished with 20 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 steals.
Fellow senior
Kevin Lewis, taking over the majority of the point guard duties in place of injured star point guard
Kevin Cottonham, had his most productive night of the season, going for 17 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals.
The Wildcats will travel to Marshall, Texas next Thursday for a critical matchup against reigning NCAA Elite 8 participant and preseason ASC favorite East Texas Baptist.
