The Louisiana College Wildcats dropped a tough 86-80 decision to in-state Division I opponent Northwestern State on Wednesday night in Natchitoches.

The Wildcats tied the game up at 70 with 6:03 left in the second half before the Demons closed the game out on a 16-10 run to take the six-point win.

LC outrebounded the Demons 38-37 and turned the ball over just 12 times on the night but where outshot by NSU, who finished the night 50.9% from the field (28-for-55) while the Wildcats finished at 40.9% (27-for-66).

Senior Anthony Gaines, Jr. led the Wildcats with 21 points and 15 rebounds to record his third straight double-double to start the season.

Fellow seniors Kevin Lewis (21 points) and Kevin Cottonham (18 points) also joined Gaines, Jr. in double figures for LC.

The Wildcats will take the court again on Monday when they take on LSU-Alexadria on the road in the second part of the "Red River Rivalry."
