Â
The Wildcats got a highlight reel first half goal from
Victor Almeida and an unbelievable performance from goalkeeper
Nathan Gautreaux to fuel to 1-1 tie and give themselves some momentum before they hit the homestretch of conference play.
Â
UT-Tyler took the first lead of the match when Brandon Morris scored in the 34
th minute off a ball that was deflected close to the goal and snuck into the back of the net to give the Patriots the lead.
Â
But the Wildcats had an immediate answer, as Almeida sent a missile past UT-Tyler goalkeeper John McGuffin a little more than a minute later from 35 yards out to tie the match at 1-1, which would remain the score after regulation time and two overtime periods.
Â
The Patriots, who held a 15-2 advantage in shots on goal, had numerous chances to put the game away after the first half, but Gautreaux continually denied them, as he came up with 14 saves on the night, several of them of the game-saving variety, as he used his 6-foot-6 frame to protect the night all night long.
The Wildcats (1-11-1 overall, 0-6-1) will host the Ozarks Eagles on Friday at 6 p.m. at Wildcat Field in Pineville, the second game of their current four-game homestand.
