Abilene, Texas - Led by a triple-double performance from forward Derrick Jefferson, the Cowboys of Hardin-Simmons took down the Louisiana College men's basketball team 89-66 on Saturday afternoon in Abilene, Texas in American Southwest Conference action.

The Cowboys, undefeated in ASC play and leading the conference standings, got 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists from Jefferson to pick up a key win over the Wildcats.

LC grabbed the first lead of the game when junior Kevin Lewis knocked down a jump shot at the 19:36 mark of the first half to give the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage.

That was, however, the only time the Wildcats would hold a lead the rest of the way.

Hardin-Simmons answered immediately with an emphatic dunk from Justin Jones on their next possession to tie the game at 2-2, which started a 15-2 run in favor of the Cowboys.

HSU would continue to dominate the rest of the first half, shooting 51.6% (16-31) in the first 20 minutes, to take a 42-24 lead into the locker room.

The Wildcats would shoot the ball much better in the second half, going 16-for-37 from the field (43.2%), but it was not enough, as the Cowboys showed why they are considered one of the region's top teams at this point in the season.

LC sophomore Steve Evans recorded a double-double with 14 points and a career-high 16 rebounds while Anthony Gaines, Jr. (14 points, five rebounds, five steals) and Kevin Lewis (13 points, four rebounds) joined Evans in double figures.

The Wildcats (3-5 overall, 3-2 in ASC play) drop to fifth in the ASC standings with the loss and will hit the road next week for a Thursday ASC matchup at Sul Ross and another conference game against Howard Payne on Saturday in Brownwood, Texas.
