In one of the most up-tempo and high-flying games seen in recent memory at the H.O. West Fieldhouse, the Louisiana College men's basketball team put in a show in front of their home crowd, as they ran their way to an exciting 103-80 win over the Concordia Tornados on Thursday night in Pineville.

Concordia, one of the nation's highest scoring teams coming into the game, went cold from behind the arc for most of the game while LC was able to consistently break the Tornados press defense and attack the rim with their athleticism.

In a game that had many moments which brought the homestanding crowd to their feet, the first came with just under six minutes left the first half when junior Kevin Lewis threw a lob pass near the rim to sophomore Steve Evans that Evans emphatically finished and gave the Wildcats a 24-20 lead and all the momentum that they needed to take a 43-36 lead into the locker room.

The Tornadoes went just 4-18 (22.2%) from behind the arc in the first half, and were outscored 16-0 in fast break points as the Wildcats proved their effectiveness in a full court, up-tempo game.

The Wildcats would waste no time regaining the momentum in the second half either, as Anthony Gaines, Jr. caught a beautiful feed from Lewis, made one move and slammed home LC's first points of the second half on their very first possession.

Gaines, Jr. would once again ignite the crowd at the 16:51 mark when Brandon Watkins found the star junior forward streaking down the middle of the court with a beautiful pass that Gaines, Jr. slammed home to put LC up 53-46.

That dunk seemed to serve as the breaking point for Concordia, as the Wildcats went on a 9-1 run immediately after to stretch the lead out to 62-47.

But LC was not done with the show yet, as junior point guard Kevin Cottonham, with the shot clock running down at the 6:45 mark of the second half, buried a jumper after a double crossover dribble and step back that had the H.O. West Fieldhouse buzzing.

Lewis would then put the game away with back-to-back dunks inside of the five minute mark of the second half to propel the Wildcats to the 103-80 win and season sweep of Concordia.

Gaines, Jr. led LC with 22 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks, and four steals while Cottonham scored 21 points to go along with five assists.

The Wildcats dominated in the open court, outscoring Concordia 26-2 in fast break points and 58-28 in the paint.

Louisiana College (9-7 overall, 9-4 in ASC) remain deadlocked with red-hot East Texas Baptist (14-4, 9-4), who has rattled off fiev consecutive wins in recent weeks, for third place in the ASC standings.

The Wildcats will have a huge opportunity to climb in the standings when Mary Hardin-Baylor (13-5, 10-3), currently second in the ASC, visits the H.O. West Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
