After a tremendous effort on defense in the first 24 minutes of the match by the Lady Wildcats where they did not allow a shot to the Lady Tigers, Sewanee's Shelby Meckstroth was able to break through and slip the first goal of the game past LC keeper
Shelby Schneider to break the scoreless tie.
With the momentum in their favor, the Lady Tigers turned the intensity up a notch when Mary Frank would score on an assist from Meckstroth just three seconds after Meckstroth's goal to give Sewanee a two goal advantage.
But Frank was not done, as she broke through and scored for the second time in less than two minutes on an assist from Baker Walls to give Sewanee a 3-0 advantage, which would turn into a 4-0 lead going into halftime after a Melissa Zankman goal in the 40th minute.
LC did show signs of improvement from the past weekend offensively in the second half, however, as senior All-ASC forward Pam Usry would drive home the Lady Cats first goal of the season in the 55th minute of the second half off an assist from
Jayme Harmon.
In uncharacteristic fashion, Sewanee held a strong 7-0 advantage in corner kicks over the Lady Wildcats. the Lady Tigers also got off 13 total shots compared to six for LC, with four of those coming from Usry.
The Lady Wildcats will continue to search for their first win of the season on Saturday, as they face off against Birmingham-Southern at 2:30 p.m. in Birmingham, AL.
