The Louisiana College men's soccer team got off to a strong start on Friday afternoon as Rodrigo Neves' goal in the opening minute set the tone for the Wildcats, as they defeated the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets 4-2 in front of a home crowd for the first time all season at Wildcat Field.

The Wildcats used three first half goals, including Neves' just 25 seconds into the match, to take an early lead and propel themselves to their second straight win.

The Wildcats came out firing as they scored their first goal within 25 seconds of the game when Neves snuck his second goal of the season past HPU keeper Allan Chehadi on an assist from Renato Neves, and they never let up from that point.

Pedro Silva and Boneco Bazil finished out the first half with goals of their own as the Wildcats took a commanding lead of 3-0 into the half despite a 30-minute weather delay that seemed to ignite the Wildcats.

The Yellow Jackets threatened to come back as the second half began by scoring two goals within the first three minutes of the latter 45 to make the score 3-2. But Bazil sealed the victory with his second score of the night by punching it in from 20 yards out.

The win over the Yellow Jackets, despite being a non-ASC regular season matchup, gave LC fans a glimpse into the potential of the 2014 Wildcat squad, which has the potential to be the best in school history after making their first trip to the ASC Tournament a season ago.

The Wildcats, 2-1 on the season, will again play at home on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. when they host Mississippi College. The Choctaws will be playing at Wildcat field for the first time as a non-ASC member school, as they joined the ranks of Division II after last season.
