Lady Cats split on Friday to stay alive in ASC Tournament

The Louisiana College softball team split on Friday to stay alive in the 2014 ASC Tournament, dropping their first game to #1 seed UT-Tyler 5-3 before taking down  #8 seed LeTourneau 9-1 in an elimination game. 

Following their hard fought, 5-3 loss to #1 seed Texas-Tyler in the first game of the day, the Lady Wildcats came out early and made it clear they were not ready to go home, as they downed teh LeTourneau Yellow Jackets 9-1 in their second game of the day at Suddenlink Field.
 
After Emorie Nugent led off the top of the first inning by reaching on an error by Letourneau second baseman Megan Hill. LC senior shortstop would then follow that two batters later with a long two-run home run to left center, her sixth of the year.
 
LC would then grab a 4-0 lead in the top of the third inning with a pair of RBI singles from Sandra Ouchley and Courtney Ivey.
 
The Lady Cats would then enjoy their biggest inning in the top of the fourth when they scored three runs on two hits, as Pearson and Ouchley would both draw bases loaded walks before Nugent would come around to score on an RBI single from Ivey.
 
LC would add their final runs on a pair of RBI singles in the sixth inning from Laura Gulotta-Parrish and Kimber Gruehl.
 
Freshman pitcher Taylor Leger picked up her eighth win of the season by giving up just one earned run on five hits in five innings.
 
The Lady Cats will take on Mary Hardin-Baylor in an elimination game set for 3:00 p.m. at Suddenlink Field with the winner set to play in the semifinals immediately after.  

The Lady Cats will take on Mary Hardin-Baylor at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in an elimination game with the winner moving onto the semifinals at 6:00 p.m.
