Box ScoreUpdated Season StatsPINEVILLE, LA - The Louisiana College softball team wasted no time making a statement on Saturday, as they put six runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning on their way to a 10-0 win in five innings to complete their weekend series sweep of Howard Payne.
After
Emorie Nugent led off the Lady Cats' half of the first inning by reaching third after a single to right field and an error by HPU right fielder Adrienne Sanchez, LC would get out to a 3-0 lead with RBI singles from
Stephanie Jaeger,
Courtney Ivey, and
Kimber Gruehl.
Freshman shortstop
Jessica Johnson would then provide the big blow of the inning, as she hit a towering three-run home run over the centerfield wall, her first home run as a Lady Wildcat.
Ivey would collect another RBI in the second inning with a double to left field that scored Nugent.
LC would add two more runs in the bottom of the third on two hits and an HPU error before Gruehl finished off the Lady Jackets with a shot into the left center gap for an RBI double that scored Ivey.
Sophomore pitcher Abby Mailet was outstanding in the circle, as she tossed four inning nd gave up just one hit to earn her sixth win of the season.
The Lady Wildcats now stand at 20-5 overall and 20-4 in ASC play. They will take on Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, TX on Friday at 4:00 p.m. in an ASC series.
