Box ScoreA five run second inning was enough for the seventh ranked East Texas Baptist softball team to take game one of their weekend ASC series against the Louisiana College Lady Wildcats by a final score of 5-0.
After both teams went scoreless in the first inning, ETBU would send 10 batters to the plate in the top of the second inning, as they scored all five of their runs with two outs in the inning.
Centerfielder Kayla Garcia led off the inning with a single to left field and eventually moved up to second base on a passed ball. Catcher Mallory Westbrook eventually brought Garcia home on an RBI double to left field to give ETBU the first lead of the game, 1-0.
Alyssa Romero and Lacey Lindsey would follow with an RBI single and a two RBI single, respectively before shortstop Kaitlyn Hollingshead would drive in the final runs of the inning with an RBI double down the left field line to give ETBU the lead on the eventual final score of 5-0.

Taylor Leger took the loss for LC after working 1.2 innings and giving up four earned runs on three hits and three walks.
LC's four hits on the day came from
Laura Gulotta-Parrish,
Emorie Nugent,
Kimber Gruehl, and
Meagan Pearson, who came in for an emotionally charged pinch-hit appearance in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The loss dropped LC's season record to 20-9 overall with a 20-8 mark in ASC play. The two teams will square off again on Saturday in doubleheader slated to begin at 12 p.m.
